MillaMia Yarn from Sweden

I was recently in the Pasadena area visiting family, and while I was there I thought it would be fun to visit a LYS to see what different yarns they had. I ended up going to Skein, which was run by a very friendly couple and filled with some lovely yarns that I had never seen before. Please visit this cute little place if you have the opportunity. Anyway, one of the best yarns, both in quality and value, was MillaMia, which is an 100% merino wool collection. It has just a little bit of stretch to it, with lovely stitch definition, just perfect for either crochet or knitting.

Another nice thing about this line is that there is only one kind of yarn. It's so much less overwhelming to have the one type, 100% merino wool, with a wide array of colors than to have a brand with a dozen or more types of yarn, in dozens of different colors - yarn overload. The color palettes are very Scandinavian, so it's easy to dream up all kinds of Nordic mitten, hat, and scarf designs. I was thinking of making something like these with the red, cream, and light gray colors I bought.

I found these via Spanish blog Las Teje y Maneje, a super awesome website dedicated to all things crochet.

I also need to find a cute pattern for a little hat for my son, who would look so sweet in a little red hat for this winter. He hardly has any hair.

The company, founded by two gorgeous Swedish ladies, also publishes adorable pattern books for children. I love brightly colored striped sweaters for babies and kids, and these manage to be just that without looking like an eye test.

Well, maybe a little bit like an eye test. From the book Bright Young Things.

Unfortunately there are no stockists here in Phoenix, so if I want to get my hands on these things I'll have to order them over the internet. But I think it's worth the price.
